VF-111 Sundowners HGU-33 Pilot Helmet
This custom VF-111 HGU-33 was built for my good buddy and photographer Rob with Sundowner Studios. @sundownerstudios on Instagram
During the 1980s, VF-111 “Sundowners” was one of the U.S. Navy’s most recognizable F-14 Tomcat squadrons. Based at NAS Miramar, the squadron was famous for its striking rising-sun tail markings and distinctive shark-mouth nose art. Flying the F-14A from carriers including USS Kitty Hawk and USS Carl Vinson, the Sundowners served throughout the Pacific while maintaining the squadron’s long-standing fighter heritage. Their bold markings and the unmistakable profile of the Tomcat made VF-111 an enduring icon of 1980s U.S. Naval Aviation.
